Electro-Menorah
When the Maccabees rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem, they were faced with one of the earliest recorded oil shortages.
To conduct their ceremony, they needed eight days’ worth of oil and only had enough for one. But, as the story goes, their oil miraculously lasted for the full eight days.
If only Judah Maccabee had some LEDs and a 5-volt power supply, he need not have worried. Forget eight days; he could have had light for eight years!
That is where the Electro-Menorah comes in. Based on an Arduino Nano (*cough* knock-off *cough*), it helps families recite the Hanukkah Prayers with full musical accompaniment. It plays the prayer appropriate to the night of Hanukkah indicated by the LEDs. Then, for those who are feeling particularly festive, it can play two songs: Hava Nagila and Adam Sandler’s Hanukkah Song.
